Volunteers
To be a success, the Nordic Light International Festival of Photography depends upon many volunteers. We have held the festival for the past four years in Kristiansund, thanks to the many volunteers who have helped us with preparations and during the festival itself. Nordic Light volunteers contribute to our various committees for many months before the festival begins. They often act as guides at our exhibitions and talks, help behind the scenes, or front stage and with the clearing up afterwards.
All our volunteers efforts are needed to make the festival a success, and they are really appreciated – not only by us, but especially by our visitors and guests. Our volunteers helped make the first Nordic Light International Festival of Photography an unforgettable experience.
We now stand on the brink of our fifth festival, with a great team of experienced and enthusiastic volunteers. Many continue to help, but we always have room for new volunteers. Nordic Light has many committees involved in preparing and winding up the festival:
- VIP committee
- Technical committee
- Committee for children and youth
- Exhibition committee
- Events committee
- and more .....
How can you contribute as volunteer?
Practical preparations: In addition to the various committees, we need many volunteers to assist with practical tasks before the festival begins. Exhibition venues may need a spot of paint, a spring clean, or their windows cleaning. Exhibition stands have to be moved to their locations. Lighting has to be set up. And everything has to be tidied up after the festival is finished.
Inauguration day: During inauguration day the festival needs many willing hands to take care of the activities planned throughout the town.
Exhibition guides: During the festival all exhibitions have at least one guide on inauguration day. Guides keep the venue tidy, help and count guests and sometimes sell tickets. Exhibition guides have to know about festival activities and the exhibiting photographer.
Ticket attendant/Guide: Checks and counts tickets on the door, and guides everyone out afterwards, at talks at the Caroline Cinema and Conference centre. The ticket attendant is also present during the talk, in case help is needed.
Technical support: Before and during talks a volunteer is needed in the hall, to take care of guests and make sure that everything from a glass of water to a microphone is in order. After each talk, the hall must be tidied ready for the next talk.
VIP contact: All participating photographers and guest speakers have their own VIP-contact as a guide. Tasks for a VIP-contact can vary from collection/delivery at the airport to providing practical information, and are agreed individually with each participant.
How can Nordic Light repay your efforts?
We can promise you plenty of memorable experiences and meetings with participants and the public! You'll get a CREW pass for joining the exhibitions and lectures.Tickets for ‘Face-to-face’ interviews can be bought for NOK 200. All volunteers are also invited to a Wrap-up party.
